Description
Desiccant holder for the Snapmaker U1 – CC3D Spool Box.
I have had trouble keeping the humidity down in the spool boxes of my CC3D projects Spool Box. Although there is already a desiccant pod in there. I also worry that running the Polydryer to often could have negative affect on the filaments inside, making it brittle. This led me to look into an additional desiccant holder (yes, I am probably a bit excessive when it comes to my usage of desiccants). So going down the rabbit hole, I bring you my desiccant holder for the spool box that holds 210 grams of desiccant. I am hoping that is plenty. Ya think? There is one for each spool box: left/right side. Two of these won’t fit in a single spool box because the bump out of feed assist motor mount is in the way. These go on the outer edge and mount behind the spool hanger. There is still plenty of room for the spool hanger to fit, and they don’t hit the lid when it closes. Hope this helps.
As you can see, the desiccant holder is printed in two halves. I recommend super glueing them together by applying a thin bead of CA glue in the female half. That inset channel will help hold the glue where it needs to be until you get the parts pressed together. I also recommend doing a couple dry assemblies prior to applying glue so you are ready for the glue up and can do this quickly when it matters.
In some of my photos, you’ll see the spool holders with bearings by Nicky Bay. I definitely recommend giving them a try. You can find them here. Recommended to bump up the infill significantly, I dropped two of mine and broke the bearing off one end. I now have a set at 100% infill. Never gonna break them again…. I hope. I was having issues with my infeed motor on spool 3 overloading before getting a set of these. That has not happened since.
