Description
A simple, strong and reliable filament clip designed to keep your filament securely in place and prevent tangles during storage.

I designed this clip in Fusion 360 after trying and looking at many existing filament clips. I found that many designs simply clamp the filament to the edge of the spool, which can allow the filament to loosen or the clip to come off.
So I wanted to make something different.

🚨 FILAMENT EMERGENCY! 🚨
Your filament is safe…

This design features two ways to secure the filament:
Top Slot – insert the filament from above and lock it between the pins.
Locking Hole – insert the filament through the conical locking hole to create a secure hold.

The locking geometry was designed to provide a tight and controlled grip while still allowing the filament to be inserted and removed easily.
I tested the design through 15+ print iterations, gradually adjusting the filament tolerance until I reached a reliable fit. The final version was designed with durability, strength and everyday usability in mind.
At the same time, I wanted to keep it small and fast to print, without sacrificing print quality.
Print Profile
0.20 mm Standard Quality
2 walls
Concentric Top Surface
Concentric Bottom Surface
No supports
Approx. 1 g of filament
Approx. 10 minutes per clip

I also included a Brim profile for users who experience adhesion problems or simply prefer additional bed adhesion.
My recommendation is to print it without a brim when your first layer adhesion is good. Use the brim profile only when needed.
The clip is designed to be a small but useful addition to any 3D printing setup and can be used with many different filament spools.
