AMS Hub 2-in-1 Protective & PTFE Guide

I designed this 2-in-1 protective cover for the AMS Hub to solve several common issues in one simple print.

First, it helps protect the AMS Hub from excessive tilting or movement. Without proper support, the hub can become misaligned or partially disconnected from the print head, potentially causing damage or breaking the hub connection.

The design is also tall enough to act as a PTFE tube guide. By keeping the PTFE tubes properly aligned at the hub entrance, it prevents the tube from bending sharply. This helps reduce the risk of the filament breaking at the entrance or getting stuck inside the hub due to a poorly guided PTFE tube.

As an additional benefit, the guide helps with a common AMS Lite feeding issue, where the AMS Lite motor sometimes struggles to push the filament all the way to the heating assembly. Keeping the PTFE path straight and properly supported helps the filament travel more smoothly and reduces unnecessary friction and feeding problems.

One Part Instead of Two

One of the main goals of this design was to combine two commonly printed solutions into a single part.

Usually, users print one part to protect and support the AMS Hub and another separate part to properly guide the PTFE tubes. With this design, you don’t need to print two different pieces. This model combines both functions into one compact solution.

Easy Installation

Installation is quick and simple. Remove the PTFE tubes from the AMS Lite side by pressing and holding the black rings, then snap the tubes into the guide.

Installing the tubes from this side helps minimize the risk of accidentally damaging or breaking anything on the AMS Hub.

If you need to perform maintenance or remove the hub, simply slide the protector upward to release it.

Fit Test Piece

Since 3D printing can sometimes result in slight dimensional differences due to material shrinkage, thermal expansion, or printer calibration, I also provide a small test piece that can be printed quickly to check the fit before printing the entire model.

This is completely optional. In my case, the fit was perfect on the first print, so I did not need any adjustments. However, the test piece can be useful if you want to verify the dimensions on your printer first and avoid wasting filament on a full-size print in case your printer produces slightly different tolerances.
